Name of Drug

Cardamomi fructus, cardamom seed.

Composition of Drug

Cardamom consists of the dried, almost ripe, greenish to yellow-gray fruit of Elettaria cardamomum (L.) Maton [Fam. Zingiberaceae]. Medicinal use is made only of the seed removed from its fruit capsule, and preparations thereof. The seeds contain essential oil with mainly terpinyl acetate, a-terpineol and 1,8-cineol.

Uses

Dyspepsia.

Contraindications

In case of gallstones, use only after consultation with a physician.

Unless otherwise prescribed:

Average daily dosage:

  • 1.5 g of drug;
  • equivalent preparations.

Tincture (according to Erg. B. 6):

Daily dosage:

  • 1 - 2 g.

Ground seeds, as well as galenical preparations thereof for internal use.
