Abstract (AB):
These guidelines by the World Health Organization provide an overview of the key elements directly tied to consumers that must be in place in health systems in order to ensure proper use of traditional medicine (TM)/complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The general principles and activities for the development of reliable consumer information about TM/CAM are described, and the key elements that should be taken into consideration when developing consumer information promoting proper use of TM/CAM are outlined. The document contains five chapters, which provide information about general considerations related to TM/CAM; the development of consumer information; general principles and activities for ensuring reliable TM/CAM information; topics to consider when developing consumer information promoting proper use of TM/CAM; and information on how to use this publication. 45 references.
