Abstract (AB):
This fact sheet from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) discusses the Trial To Assess Chelation Therapy (TACT) launched by NCCAM and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. It is the first large-scale, multicenter study to determine the safety and efficacy of (ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid) EDTA chelation therapy for individuals with coronary artery disease. The fact sheet provides information on coronary artery disease, EDTA chelation therapy, and the TACT study through a series of questions and answers. It explains how EDTA chelation therapy might work to clear blocked arteries and discusses previous studies of EDTA chelation therapy for coronary artery disease, as well as details about the current EDTA chelation trial. NCCAM contact information is provided.
